We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. The hotel was cosy & comfortable, the staff were very friendly & accommodating. You had to go to their sister hotel The Ferry Boat Inn which is just over the road for breakfast. What a fabulous place for food! You get a continental breakfast with your room but can upgrade to a cooked 6(extra pennies but well worth it) Everything cooked fresh, the food was so good we ate there the 2 evenings we stayed. Again staff there so friendly and obliging. Wouldn't hesitate to go back to both The Argyll Hotel & The Ferry Boat Inn.

In room 11 we had the most stunning outlook. We were made to feel very welcome and our Scottie dog too. The only thing we were sad about was no cooked breakfast available before we left because of short staffing but it’s the same all up and down the country in hospitality. (We cheered ourselves up with a lovely cooked one at The Pieron way home) I blame Brexit 100%. Ullapool is very beautiful, always has been but with their new front work improvements makes it so much more lovely. Thank you for our lovely stay 😊

The hotel and facilities are very old and it shows. A lot of it smells of cigarette smoke from days gone by.The location is an ideal place to stay of you want to catch the morning ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway. Our room was generally pretty clean; however there were a lot of stains on the upholstered chairs. We had a wonderful view of the harbour and surrounds. The staff are very helpful and the food was nicely prepared.

We were here in peak season so rooms were expensive (but they were everywhere). Our room were a bit dated and run down but made up for this with fabulous views of the harbour, comfy bed and Netflix/streaming services. House keeping could improve, ie. No tea, very little milk, soap dispenser in shower empty but again, this was countered by a lovely pub downstairs with a great atmosphere.

We booked this as the website I consulted didn’t have much choice. Just before arriving we checked reviews online and they were very poor, so we were apprehensive. This is unfair - the room was clean, the bed large and comfy, great view, not bad bathroom, armchairs, hot drinks etc. Cheerful service at continental breakfast provided in hotel across the road though we’d been told there wouldn’t be any, so that was a bonus. Hall and entry a bit dingy and this is a pub with rooms rather than a hotel, but as long as you know that, it’s fine. Easy for the ferry to Stornaway too which was why we were there.

Great view of harbor from room. Very close to everything. The room was comfortable and excellent bed.A little touch up with paint to stair well and bathroom ceiling would’ve made it perfect, but I’m being picky. Really friendly staff too.

Stayed overnight … our room looked out over Ullapool harbour which was a fabulous view, food was served at sister hotel across the road … however it was worth the ‘effort’ as the food was excellent.. as were the staff. Would stay here again.

After hiking and wildcamping on Skye and Lewis this was the perfect stay! Comfy bed, huge clean room with a great view, a bathtub... The food in the pub was fantastic and the guy who was in charge at the reception, the bar and the restaurant did an amazing job. Gute the man a raise!

Delightful view over the harbour to Loch Broom.Room 6 was roomy and comfortable.Staff friendly and approachable. No problem with noise mid week when we stayed.Live band in lounge one night - excellent.Hotel needs some tlc especially outdoor area which could look lovely.Free continental breakfast in Ferry Hotel opposite which they also own - was a wee bonus.A bit expensive or the room but accommodation is scarce with NC500 nearby. Not a lot of bikes in the town.Lovely area around and good base for outdoor pursuits - just lovely when sun is out.

Rooms extremely dated and could do with a splash of paint. TV wasn't tuned in so couldn't use and the toilet seat was broken BUT staff more than made up for this. Ullapool has the feel of an old fashioned fishing village. Most hotels are smaller and very quaint. The Argyll would fit this description. We love this type of hotel. If you are looking for a Marriott, this probably isn't your type of place. Our room had a nice king size bed and a little sitting area.Very comfortable.Overlooked the harbor so a nice view.We had dinner one night in the bar and the food was excellent. My fish & chips were very good and reasonably priced - in line with most restuarants. For Breakfast, we did have to go to a sister hotel down the street.I always notice that some people get upset with this. For us, we simply walked about 75 hards to the Ferry Boat Inn and they took care of us.Nice breakfast choices (we had pre-paid to have breakfast included). We loved the bar but be aware that the bar is a "go to" spot for the locals. We loved the energy but on the weekends, it can be a bit loud, especially on a nice night as people congregate outside. But we were ok with that. The Rugby world cup was going on so this was a good location to watch the match and enjoy the spirited rooting by the locals. Some may not want that so keep it in mind if you need a quiet night on a Fri or Sat night, this might not be the place for you.Staff:The staff overseeing the hotel are younger but did a nice job.Logan, Lee, and I think Connor (or Connel) were very friendly and happy to help us as needed.Parking on a back lot behind the hotel or in the street.Great location for walking around town.We really enjoyed our stay based on what we like in accomodations, the ambience, and the staff.

First off I had not been given the impression that this was a turn key hotel. The stairs and hallway were smashed up and gloomy and the room and facilities were not very clean or functional. The only people that we saw there was when the bar opened and a good proportion of the heavy and rowdy drinkers of Ullapool sang and shouted their way through the evening and into the early hours of the morning which does not help you to sleep or even feel secure. In the morning a rather disinterested lady arrived about 8am and asked me if we wanted breakfast there. That was an emphatic no.If you are paying in the region of £130.00 a night for hotel accommodation you expect a good deal more than the Argyll is prepared to offer. The star rating options below this message are not working. The only one available is 5 star so no star rating.

It's not surprising that stay in Ullapool is always a good idea. But Argyll adds some plus: the efficency of the personnel, the relaxing dinner at pub, the breakfast as a good morning star.Only the room could be a little more spacious, but is a minor point.

Whilst our room was fairly basic, there was everything we needed; comfy beds, bath/shower, TV, coffee & tea facilities etc. The room would just benefit from redecorating and then it would be great. However, the jewel was the food and the atmosphere! Excellent food and a friendly lively bar frequented by locals as we as guests. Most evenings have some kind of entertainment/activities when we were there it was quiz night we were immediately invited to take part and it was a lovely fun evening.Looking for somewhere to stay in Ullapool then I would definitely recommend checking out the Argyll Hotel

Managed to get parked right outside main door, so a big bonus. Good and easy welcome at reception, lovely bar/restaurant with great staff and our evening meal was perfect. A quiz night in the bar too, but our brains were not working to well, so bowed out and had an early night. Had an easy/friendly atmosphere about the whole place, which is really great. Room was comfy, with all required...no wardrobes if you're into that sort of furniture, just open hook/hanging, which is better as folks do tend to 'go blind' and leave stuff when there are wardrobes with 'closed doors'...well done, good one guys-keep it nice but simple.Though we had a slight problem with the shower drain not clearing properly, my quick fix of 'foot/facecloth plunge' sorted that out. Loved this place and would recommend.

We made it late to the hotel therefore we were not able to eat dinner there. But there was one open restaurant nearby. We wish we were given better details of the hotel - no elevator and the parking is in the rear. Other than that, the views were beautiful and the staff was super kind. There was a lot of noise late into the night because of the bar.

This was an overnight on the NC500. The Hotel appeared to be in the middle of some updates during our stay, but had no impact to our comfort. We landed a room with a superb view of the harbor and other than the initial musty smell of the room, we were quite content. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet outside of the lads in the street after the bars closed. The staff were friendly and breakfast service was nice with good food. Parking is off the street and easy to access.

The hotel is located one street up from the main Shore Street, so out of the hustle, bustle and parking issues there, but still very, very close to all the bars and restaurants. The room, although on the small side, is good value for money and impeccably clean.

This small hotel was the only one free when we booked. It is rather dark and decor is dingy. The building is in need of a bit of tlc. Having said that it was spotlessly clean, the large bed was very comfortable and the staff were pleasant. The evening meal was excellent and the breakfast good though a very limited menu. The electric shower was very poor. Private parking was convenient and close, in a town where it can be difficult. All in all a ‘tired’ wee hotel but worthy of 3 stars. In the future I would look elsewhere but be happy to use it if that was all that was available.

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door and the check-in process, though our group was split across two hotels, was quick and seamless. The food was excellent (both dinner and breakfast) and the service was outstanding. Some of our group even participated in the quiz night that happened to take place on the night of our arrival. For the amount charged the accommodation was disappointing. I know it must be difficult for hoteliers with lack of funds from CV19 over the past year but it would have given the management a good opportunity to redecorate and tidy up the bedrooms and bar area. That said the staff were helpful and polite and the evening meal was good.

The car park and a small garden were positively uncared for but the hotel itself is quite a contrast. Much renovation has been carried out to a very good standard and the bedroom was extremely well prepared and equipped. The fire in the lounge was regularly topped up by the barman and most welcoming. The menu for dinner was quite restricted but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The red wine was decent as well. Considering the restrictions on tourists due to the Covid situation it was good to see the hotel was still able to function. All staff were most pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very good so all in all we enjoyed a very welcome break away from home.

Enjoyable stay at this hotel, staff were friendly and the food was good - the only problem was that all the doors and windows were open on an evening - which meant we didn't spend as much time there as we otherwise would have, when it was absolutely freezing!
Response
Thank you so much for your positive comments, we are delighted that you enjoyed your visit. Thank you also for the feedback re the ventilation. We are obliged to keep windows open due to Covid, to ensure a good air-flow, but note that this was also too chilly for you on your visit. We hope to improve this by aiming to ensure the airflow is sensible but not too cold, keeping the heating on and we also have air purifiers in the bar. We hope to welcome you back soon!

We stayed 1 night and enjoyed it. Excellent food in the bar and a giid breakfast. The bar itself is busy with music so if absolute peace and quiet is top of your list then not the place for you. If, however you like being close to some entertainment and activity then this suits.

After becoming stranded just outside Scourie with no accommodation available in the village i was told by a friendly local fella about the Argyll hotel in Ullapool, i arrived there really late after a temporary repair on the van and the guy on reception was amazing,he got myself and my work colleague a twin room which was also at a great price, amazingly clean, warm cosy room with everything you could wish for plus a stunning loch view when we woke up, great place to stay, i parked right outside the door and my room was literally there, no walking down long corridors with all your belongings, great place and great staff

All round great place to stay . Polite friendly staff that went out of their way to help. Big clean room with a viewand great food .Only down side was when we arrived the two male staff that were on that night were so unhelpful and rude but it never ruined our stay . We never set eyes on them the week we were there , the rest of the staff were first classRoom was a bit cold but we had a big cozy cover , Yes I would recommend and yes I will go back ????????

The room was clean, warm, and comfortable; we had a great, quiet night of sleep. The price was reasonable for a hotel in the area, and the location was fantastic. Staff was great overall - the main, mature staff member was not particularly friendly though he was helpful enough.

The Argyll Hotel is certainly creaky in parts and could do with someTLC but it served us well enough and the view across the loch from the room was lovely. Breakfast was very nice and dinners at The Ferry Boat across the road and owned by same people were excellent! The Bar at The Argyll was comfortable and the food served there looked very good. If you want five star - or even four - look elsewhere but if that’s ok then give this place a try.

This is a lovely hotel which needs some TLC and a lick of paint. It’s in the best location, incredible views over the Loch.Has parking found the back. The staff are lovely and can’t do enough for you. The rooms have everything you need. Breakfast was served in dining room and was lovely. The only thing that was dissapointing was the draft coming in the window. It was a very high wind outside and unfortunately it found its way in. It felt like it was coming from under the window frame? The room was cold as a result although the heaters tried to keep it warm. So I didn’t get much sleep.I would definitely stay here again in the summer months.

We stayed one night at the Argyll and it met our needs well. Our top floor room was spacious and comfortable with a great view. The breakfast was good. Since the Argyll (like all hotels in Ullapool) has regular live music, make sure you do not have a room above the bar - unless of course that is what you want.

This was one of the most pleasant places we stayed in during our highland trip. The view over the bay was stunning, and the room, though small, was cosy and welcoming. Details on how it was decorated added to its character - my mum became a fan of your tweed curtains and pillows. The shower worked well and we were pleasantly surprised to find all the toiletries were of high quality, made with Scottish sea kelp. Another detail was the offer of teas besides the usual "English breakfast", especially the green tea which was perfect to soothe my mum's stomach after a big fish and chips dinner! The Borders cookies were also a delicious bonus. In the morning, rushing to get the bus to Inverness, I forgot to hand in the room keys and only realised it when I was already in Inverness and got a call hours later. The staff was very understanding and allowed me to post them back, which was a big relief. Thank you!

We stayed at the Argyll on a Wednesday evening and the room was great on the top floor with excellent views of the bay. However, at closing time we heard lots of people leaving and they were noisy for about 20 mins.It would be ideal if they could ask bar customers to leave through the back entrance.Breakfast was excellent, great location.

Our second stay at The Argyll was as good as our first stay 3 years ago. We do appreciate the in house restaurant area upstairs as we much prefer that to eating your evening meal in the bar.Very pleased the langoustines are still a permanent feature of the evening menu. We had them every night! We find this hotel faultless. It is one of those places that has a great friendly laid back ambience which you realise is extremely efficiently run.Well done everybody at the Argyll. We would recommend to everybody that it is the best hotel to stay at in Ullapool.

After travelling along the North coast, it was a novelty for me to find a lively community again. Ullapool is good - visit the Summer Isles, watch seals or go to Stornoway. The hotel itself, although an older style, is fine. Room with a sea view, wifi available, comfortable and warm and with helpful staff.

Hôtel sympathique, avec jolie vue sur la baie d'Ullapool. Peut être un peu bruyant en raison de la présence d'un pub et des soirées organisées par l'hôtel.

I absolutely loved people working in the hotel, they were not just friendly but also very helpful - they let us check in hours before the official check-in time and then saved our lives when we had whole day ahead of us before our bus back to Inverness and they had no problems with taking care of our backpacks while we did more hiking:) I guess the hotel may feel a bit outdated but I actually liked that side of it;) The view from our room was absolutely to die for, the only thing that could have been better was the temperature in the bathroom as it was very cold in there;)
Reviewer: Mrs. C | Tue 5th May 2015 | 9 years ago
The hotel staff were pleasant, the food quality, quantity and value for money was good.My room was comfortable, however the en suite would benefit from a deep clean especially the bath/shower tile grouting.Unfortunately a cooked breakfast cold not be served before 0800 during the week which did not help if a business traveler required to be at an early appointment.

A room on the top floor had a fabulous view over the Loch and ferry teminal. Bed was especially warm and comfortable. Food, especially breakfast, at the hotel, was excellent, all locally sourced and/or organic. The weather was beautiful even though the days were short. Definitely a place to visit off season if you get the chance.

I stayed here for seven days last week while hiking around Ullapool and can't say enough good things. The room was basic, clean, comfy (especially the bed and pillows) and a good bargain. Breakfasts and dinners were fabulous. The best part is the cozy pub downstairs - always a fire going and quiet spots to read. It is also quite the local hub - with music, quiz night and people to chat with. The staff and owner are all very friendly and make the Argyle a lovely place to stay.

We only stayed at the Argyll Hotel for one night, but it was perfectly fine for what we needed for a short stay. The hotel and rooms would benefit from a little updating, but the rooms were clean and quiet. The water pressure was great in the shower and we were happy that the TV had a DVD player. The absolute best part about our stay was the yummy breakfast - I especially enjoyed the homemade muesli.

A warm friendly establishment where we were made welcome. The 'curry night' in the dining room was first class and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I would go back to the Argyll in the future.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Room fine although a bit on the small side for two people. Shower in bath which is a pet hate of mine and no anti slip mat. Enjoyed our stay.

Expectations excceded and will return next year.Highlights included:* Attentive and relaxed manner of our hosts* Quality of breakfasts and selection on offer. It was a nice and unexpected touch having hot pastries* Evening meals well prepared and quality of ingredients high* An "old" style bar which was well attended in the evenings with live music both Fri & Sat* Accomodation was clean and comfortable. Linen & matteresses all appeared to be new and of high quality.Very limited choice of food in the bar area and if this could be improved would give 5 stars on a quality / cost / facilities basis.

Very nice staff, good food and an excellent, entertaining pub are the positives. The shower room looking a bit tired was the only (slight) negative.

Clean and simply furnished room was fine. Breakfast pretty good too. A bit of noise from the bar below but not too bad.

All the staff that we meet at the Argyll Hotel were welcoming and helpful. Our room, although on the small side, had a lovely view over Loch Broom, and a good bathroom. Our hospitality tray in the room contained biscuits and fresh fruit. The buffet part of breakfast had a good selection of cereals including a lovely homemade muesli, fruit, little danish pastries, yogurts. The cooked breakfast was nicely cooked and the toast was from bread from the local bakery. Although there was live music in the bar that evening we were not disturbed by any noise and would certainly stay here again.

We have just returned from a wonderful tour of NE Scotland and spent 2 nights at the Argyll Hotel all of us were really happy with the experience including our dinner on the last night;sadly this was all spoilt by the attitude of our waitress at breakfast on the lastmorning everything was too much trouble even challenging us when we asked for a sugar bowl for the table, she did not clear plates after our cereal course until asked and was generally rude.Aside from this I would happily award 4 stars.

website gave false impression of hotel. Hotel was tired, room ensuite tired and luggage movement from car park at rear up narrow stairs was poor. Food ok and reasonable value. Should have guessed it may not meet our standards when they asked for payment up front on booking. Not much else accommodation in Ullapool though

Good points... 1) very friendly staff. 2) pleasant view from room. 3) really comfy beds and duvets. 4) breakfast very good but bacon too overcooked to get knife through.5) lunch good. 6) Saturday evening entertainment really excellent..good playing and good humour. 7) snakes and ladders in room was very entertaining.. never laughed so much for ages despite being thrashed in sets by my wifeNot so good points... 1) bedroom curtains lie over electric heater vents...an accident/fire waiting to happen... surprised fire officer has not picked this up. 2) lots of black mould in the lower grout of the shower tiles.. bleach and elbow grease would fix this. 3) first night re-booked dinner for 0600hrs ... stood at bar for 20 mins trying to buy drinks..only one person on duty serving and doing his best with a fairly busy bar... we gave up and went into restaurant at 0555hrs ... no staff there... waited and saw staff just arriving at 0600hrs... waited but hunger made us leave and the rest of our holiday dinners were taken at the Ferry Inn where the service was excellent... lesson there!Overall...a very pleasant stay. We will stay again. We hope you take this in the sprit it is intended but please watch out for the fire risk in the bedroom.

We spent a most enjoyable 3 nights at this hotel. Our room at the front had a beautiful view across Loch Broom & the room itself was spacious with plentiful hanging & storage space. The 3 dinners we had in the pleasant restaurant were all very good. The bar, where there is often live music,is frequented by locals as well as guests so there is an opportunity to mingle. Out front there are tables & chairs for al fresco drinking & eating. The atmosphere is friendly & relaxed.

Good food, great staff & a lovely friendly pub downstairs. Restaurant meeal was lovely & the breakfast was very good. Views of the loch are spectacular from the front facing rooms although the stairs may pose a challenge for some. Rooms are fairly small but had plenty of room for us & our medium sized dog.

What a fun place. Room had beautiful waterfront view; comfy bed, clean room. Had an older beach cabin style, which fit the local area. Local musicians playing in the evening made it a most enjoyable stay!

We were made to feel very welcome. The room was quite small for 3 and not en-suite. None of these issues caused a problem. The bar had a nice atmosphere and Saturday night's entertainment was great. Many thanks

At time of booking the only room available was a family room, this would be suitable for a couple with young children. In my opinion the room was clean and comfortable, however, for the cost of the room I would have expected a slightly higher standard. The staff were corteous and accomodating as I asked for room service so I could work in the evening, which they gladly arranged. The food was very good and would recommend the venison burger with home made chips!

Lovely room, great food, great atmosphere - lively bar full of locals with a regular live music scene, but completely peaceful in our upstairs room. Great food and very friendly, relaxed service. Would recommend.

This is a comfortable small hotel with helpful staff. On some evenings there is live music, mainly traditional Scottish music and the bar is very busy on those evenings, so it is advisable to book a table if you want to eat in. We thought it might be a bit nosiy but we couldn't hear the bar at all from our room. Food is excellent. We had a good view over Loch Broom from our room and the hotel is ideally place for local amenities. Our bathroom was clearly in the process of redecoration and once this is finished, and a shelf put in for guests' toilitries, it will be very good indeed. We also appreciated the apples and bottled water as well as the usual tea, coffee and biscuits. We enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay there again.

Just a really basic hotel, clean enough and friendly but old fashioned accommodation with the bathroom across the hall which was again very very basic. Good if you are on a budget but not for anyone looking for a degree of luxury. 2 out of 5 but pressed wrong star by mistake!

Very friendly staff and great bar area, where we could take the dog, with good food at a reaaonable price. The rooms and bathrooms however are in need of some up-dating and considering the price the rooms cost, we would have expected much better quality. The staff and dog friendly atmosphere did make up for this though.

We had a warm welcome from staff on a chilly weekend. All the staff were help. The bar was an excellent place and a hub of the town and a good place to watch the 6 nations rugby with friendly local folk. Bed was very comfortable but bathroom could be spruced up. Great views out over the water.

We were delighted with our two night stay on our wedding weekend, from the complimentary bottle of wine to the offer to use a room even after we had checked out as we had to wait for the ferry later that day. The bedroom was fine and the food was excellent. We would certainly use the hotel again.
